What does it mean to be viewing with your monitor at 1024 x 768,
a brief explanation:

Your computer monitor (screen) is made up of thousands of tiny dots of light called pixels (which stands for picture elements).  You can change how many of these dots per inch will be used by changing what is called your "screen resolution".  If you click on the link at the bottom that says HERE, it will take you to a page that explains with words and pictures the 3 steps to make sure your monitor is set to properly view this site and perhaps many others.

If you have a flat LCD screen (the skinny ones) or a newer computer that is less than about 3 years old, you are probably already using the minimum resolution needed to properly view this site.  If your computer is older or the pages look odd or require you to scroll from side to side to see everything, then read on.

If for example your screen is set to 800 pixels by 600 pixels, all the words, spaces and images are larger because all the dots (pixels) making them up are being pushed further apart.  Often this makes you have to scroll side to side when looking at a web page or anything on your screen.  If you "increase the resolution" you are letting the dots become closer together because you are forcing the screen to show you more dots per inch of screen.  This makes the text and the images less fuzzy as well, a good thing!
